Purpose of processing

Napping is a process used for the finishing of winter fabrics usually piece-dyed:
articles for coats for men and women, overcoats for children.
After the napping, the fabric is soft and fluffy and has the hair - previously extracted
by raising - with small flakes, knots or transversal, longitudinal or diagonal undulations,
present on the fabric in a random but uniform way.
The raw material (the fibers) must be dense and abundant but not too high. The density of the buttons
it depends on the quality of the fabric and wool used. Height depends on topping and length
of the fibers. Regularity and shape of the buttons depend on the napping machine and its
adjustment.

Processing technology

This particular look of the fabric
is achieved by passing slowly
the fabric between two boards
horizontal of such a length from
cover the fabric height and wide
40/50 cm.
The lower table, covered
with cloth, felt or velvet,
it is fixed to the sides
of the car.
The upper table, covered
from a surface more or less
wrinkled or from a sturdy cloth, has adjustable pressure and oscillates by means of eccentrics
exerting a rubbing action on the pile of the fabric obtained previously
in raising.
Amplitude and type of oscillations determine the distribution and size of the bows of hair.
The piece reaches the entrance of the machine through the tensioner bars,
then passes on an idle roller, but braked and garnished with metal tips,
equal to a second roller, placed after the napping tables, which pulls it at speed
adjustable.
Between these two rollers assembled in this way, the fabric is kept well stretched so as to undergo the effect of the
upper board that presses on it with adjustable pressure.

The fabric passes between the two tables with five possibilities of movement and as many results
(see figure A):
circular motion ➔ fiber bows or balls (fig. A, 1);
rectilinear vertical and rotary movement ➔ transverse undulations (fig. A, 2);
rectilinear horizontal and rotary movement ➔ longitudinal undulations (fig. A, 3);
rectilinear transversal and rotational movement (from right to left) ➔ undulations with diagonal
right (fig. A, 4);
rectilinear transversal and rotational movement (from left to right) ➔ generates undulations with diagonal
left (fig. A, 5).
Other effects can be obtained with particular registrations of the napping table.
The fabric, after the treatment, is dragged out from the second roller and the worked piece is laid down
on a special pallet.

Execution of processing

The operator must:
place the pieces coming from raising or topping in the center of the machine;
with the table raised, pass the end of the piece both on the first and on the second conveyor roller;
according to the desired effect adjust
• the output speed,
• the entry brake,
• the movement of eccentrics;
after these adjustments, lower the napping table and start processing.

Most recurring defects

The only flaw of the napping (irregular effect), can depend on excessive and irregular
wear between the center and the side parts of the napping table. All other defects have cause in
previous processes not carried out correctly or not conforming to the characteristics of the fabric from
napping, such as:
a difference in tension of the selvedges, can cause a different appearance between them and the center of the piece;
a shallow wash leaves substances on the fabric that compact the fibers in an irregular way;
an uneven raising between the center of the piece and the selvedge produces a non-regular napping.

Labor management

The employee must:
guarantee the routine maintenance of the machine, lubricating the points of greatest wear;
pay constant attention to the fabric, especially in the initial phase of the process;
keep the working environment in good clean conditions.

Services

After the sale of the machinery we also assist you in logistics and if desired by the customer we have technicians capable of reassembling and starting the machinery.
