There are numerous ranges of yarns, which present differences in various aspects.
The simplest yarn is the one made up of a single strand, of a single colour, with its own count and
number of twists.
Then there are twisted yarns, that is, the infinite qualities of yarns obtained from the union of two or more similar yarns.
multiple, same or different. From the simplest combination of two yarns we arrive at the complex com-
combination of fancy twists. Knowledge of twists and the large number of effects obtainable with them
it is fundamental in the fabric design phase. Let's now look at some types of twisted yarns.
Simple twisted and mulinè. By joining two strands of the same color and twisting them together you get a
simple twisted. If the two ends have different colours, the twist obtained is called mulinè.
In both cases the twist of the twist is usually opposite to that of the component ends.
Stratorti. They are twisted yarns with the twist in the same direction as the component ends, they appear light-
loosely wavy on the periphery and are used in fresh fabrics or as threading (cordonetto).
False mills. They are obtained in carded spinning by joining two wicks of different colors. In this
case the yarn looks like a mulinè, but in reality it is a simple single strand yarn.
Tortillas. They are twisted yarns which are subsequently twisted together always in the opposite direction.
