Classification

There are numerous ranges of yarns, which present differences in various aspects.
The simplest yarn is the one made up of a single strand, of a single colour, with its own count and
number of twists.
Then there are twisted yarns, that is, the infinite qualities of yarns obtained from the union of two or more similar yarns.
multiple, same or different. From the simplest combination of two yarns we arrive at the complex com-
combination of fancy twists. Knowledge of twists and the large number of effects obtainable with them
it is fundamental in the fabric design phase. Let's now look at some types of twisted yarns.
Simple twisted and mulinè. By joining two strands of the same color and twisting them together you get a
simple twisted. If the two ends have different colours, the twist obtained is called mulinè.
In both cases the twist of the twist is usually opposite to that of the component ends.
Stratorti. They are twisted yarns with the twist in the same direction as the component ends, they appear light-
loosely wavy on the periphery and are used in fresh fabrics or as threading (cordonetto).
False mills. They are obtained in carded spinning by joining two wicks of different colors. In this
case the yarn looks like a mulinè, but in reality it is a simple single strand yarn.
Tortillas. They are twisted yarns which are subsequently twisted together always in the opposite direction.
back to the previous one. In fig. 1 schematizes a cord formed by the twisting of two twisted pieces
three heads.

Twisted crepe. It is a yarn obtained with a twist
nor much higher than normal, which makes it
elastic and nervous. It is used in light woolen mills,
to which it gives a raw and crinkly feel.
THE twisted fantasy there are particular twists in them
such as the individual components, have different titles,
lengths and generally also colours. Usually
are composed of a minimum of three elements,
said: soul, effect and binding (or review). These twists have ringed, buttoned, knotted effects,
etc. and they can be grouped as follows: ondé
(corrugated); frisé (curled); bouclé (ringed);
noppé (in knots); flammé (flamed).
So. It is the simplest fancy twist and is
mated from two ends: soul and effect. The effect has
greater development and different twist from the core
(fig. 2).

Others

Frisé or curled. This twisted comes with
frizzy and very swollen appearance and is widely
you employed in the wool factory. It is made up of elements
three: soul, effect and ligature (fig. 3).
By varying the extent of the development of the effect, it varies
the appearance of frisé.
Bouclé or ringed. The bouclé has an identical structure
to frisé, but differs in its ringed appearance rather
because in curls (fig. 4). It is widely used for fancy fabrics
heavy sizes, both for men and women.
Noppé or knots. It is a twisted fantasy that presents
ta of more or less evident enlargements ad
regular intervals. It is normally made up of three
garments (core, effect and binding) (fig. 5).
Flammé or flamed. The yarn that goes under this
name is a fancy yarn obtained directly
from the wick or in twisting. Presents in his
length at more or less regular intervals of
swelling or flames (fig. 6). Alone or twisted
with other yarns, it is widely used in woolen fabrics.

The twisted yarns described here are only the main ones, ne
there are many others and therefore it is not certain
exhausted the topic which presents infinite possibilities
ble variations and makes available to the designer
king of fabrics one of the richest sources for obtaining
re effects on patterned fabrics.
Many types of twists also find wide use
in the knitwear sector. These yarns, which beyond
for particular effects present a soft hand
from, they combine with the similar typical characteristics-
than knitted fabrics, enhancing the quality
of the packaged item.
